How to Get Birthday Reminders for WhatsApp
WhatsApp may be where you send birthday messages, but it won't tell you whose birthday it is. Here is how to get the reminder from somewhere else, keep a group's birthdays, and have the message ready to paste.
The short answer
WhatsApp doesn't remind you of birthdays: its help center describes no birthday reminder for your contacts. Save each birthday where your phone can remind you (on the contact card on iPhone, or with a reminder in Google Contacts on Android) or in a reminder service, then send the message in WhatsApp when the reminder comes. For a group, agree on one person who keeps the list.
Save birthdays where your phone can remind you
WhatsApp uses the contacts on your phone, so the contact card is a natural home for each birthday:
- iPhone: add the birthday to the contact, show the Birthdays calendar, and set an alert. Steps: birthday reminders on iPhone.
- Android: add a reminder on the contact in Google Contacts. Steps: birthday reminders on Android.
That covers your own reminders. A group needs one more step.
Keep a group's birthdays
For a family, friends or team group:
- 1.Agree on one person who keeps the list. A job everyone shares tends to become nobody's job.
- 2.Ask once in the group: "Could everyone send me your birthday? Day and month is fine." Some people would rather not share theirs with the whole group, so offer a private message too.
- 3.Keep the list somewhere that reminds that person: a phone calendar, Google Contacts, or a reminder service.
- 4.When a birthday comes up, that person posts first, and the rest of the group can follow.
Planning a birthday dinner? WhatsApp's events let you set one up in the chat itself. For friends outside the group too, see how to keep track of friends' birthdays.
Sending the message
When the reminder comes, open the chat and send it:
- Write to the person directly for the people closest to you. A group message is lovely, and a private one feels more personal.
- A voice note works too, if that's how you two talk.
- WhatsApp's help center describes no scheduling for regular chats, so set the reminder for a moment you'll be free to send. For texts and email, see how to schedule a birthday text.
For the words: short birthday messages, birthday wishes, and belated birthday wishes if you're late.
A reminder by email, with the message ready to paste
Greetigo is one option for the reminder. It emails you in the morning, your time: the day before by default, or on the day, or 1, 3, 7 or 14 days before, with a message already written: a free template with their name, or on Plus and Premium the AI-written draft you saved for that date.
Open the reminder on your phone and tap Share… to open your phone's share sheet and pick WhatsApp, or tap Copy message and paste it into the chat. Greetigo doesn't connect to WhatsApp and never posts in your chats: you choose the chat and press send.
It's free for up to 10 saved dates. Each account belongs to one person, so for a group it works for whoever keeps the list. It runs in any browser, including your phone's. There's no iPhone or Android app, and reminders come by email, not as phone notifications or text messages.
About WhatsApp birthday bots
Some services offer bots that post birthday wishes in a group for you. We haven't tested any, so we can't recommend one. Before you add one to a group, check who runs it and what it can read there.
