A Birthday Reminder App for Your Mac
If you spend your day at a Mac, that is where a birthday reminder should reach you. Here is how to set one up, free or with Greetigo for Mac.
Free download. macOS 12 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.
What a good birthday reminder does
A reminder only helps if it reaches you early enough to act and somewhere you will notice it. For most birthdays that means:
- The day before, so there is time to write a message, call, or send a card.
- On the day, as a second nudge in case the first one was dismissed.
- With the words ready, so the hardest part, starting, is already done.
Free: the Calendar app on your Mac
You can add each birthday to the Calendar app as an all-day event that repeats every year, with an alert a day before. It's free and already on your Mac. It works well if you live in your calendar, though alerts are easy to dismiss on a busy morning and they don't help with what to say.
For how this compares with a reminder app, see Greetigo vs Apple Reminders and Greetigo vs Google Calendar.
Greetigo for Mac
Greetigo is a birthday and anniversary reminder that also runs as a Mac app. You log in with your Greetigo account and see the same dates and settings as on greetigo.com; a change in one shows up in the other.
- Mac notifications: turn them on once and get one at 9 AM on each date's reminder days (the day before, unless you change it) and on the day itself, even when the app is closed.
- Email reminders too: you still get the email in the morning, your time: the day before by default, or on the day, or 1, 3, 7 or 14 days before, with the message already written in full.
- The message, ready: a free template with their name, or on Plus and Premium the AI-written draft you saved for that date. You review it, then send it from Greetigo or copy it. Nothing is sent until you click Send.
- Your Mac: macOS 12 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. The app is notarized by Apple.
It's free for up to 10 saved dates. Premium has no limit. See pricing.
Set it up in a few minutes
- 1.Download Greetigo for Mac with the button above, then drag it to your Applications folder.
- 2.Open it and log in with your Greetigo account (you can create one free on greetigo.com).
- 3.Add birthdays by hand, paste a list, or import a file: a contacts (.vcf) file (in the Contacts app, select the contacts, then choose File > Export > Export vCard), a calendar (.ics) file or a CSV file.
- 4.Turn on Mac notifications in the app. You only do this once.
An import is a one-time copy: there is no live sync with your contacts. To bring in birthdays you only see on Facebook, see how to remember birthdays without Facebook.
What it doesn't do
- There is no iPhone, Android or Windows app. On any other device, greetigo.com works in a web browser with the same account. For the birthday reminders built into your phone, see on iPhone and on Android, and on a Windows PC, birthday reminders on a PC.
- There are no text-message reminders. Reminders come by email and as Mac notifications.
- Each account belongs to one person, so it isn't a shared family calendar. For keeping a family's dates, see how to keep track of family birthdays.
