Can Alexa, Siri or Google Remind You of Birthdays?
Saying "remind me" out loud is quick, and every voice assistant can do it. The hard part is "every year". Here is what each one does, from its maker's own help pages, and a setup that covers every birthday without asking again each year.
The short answer
Yes, one reminder at a time: say "Remind me on March 3 to call Sam" and Alexa, Siri or Google reminds you that day. The help pages we checked from Amazon, Apple and Google don't show a birthday reminder that repeats every year when you set it by voice, so for every birthday, every year, a calendar does the job better. Keep the birthdays on your contacts or in a calendar, and use the assistant for one-off nudges. If you'd rather get an email the day before with a message ready, Greetigo does that, free for up to 10 saved dates.
Alexa
By voice: "Alexa, remind me on March 3 to call Sam." The reminder is announced on the Echo you spoke to. If you miss it, a yellow light on the Echo, or a notification on an Echo Show's screen, tells you; ask "What are my reminders?" to hear it. Alexa can also send reminders to your phone.
In the Alexa app: open More, select Reminders, then Add Reminder, and enter the details, including which Echo should announce it.
Every year: Amazon's examples of repeating reminders are daily and weekly, like "every day at 9 am" or "every Saturday", and its help pages don't describe a yearly one. For birthdays, keep them in your calendar as events that repeat every year, then link that calendar: in the Alexa app, open More, then Settings, Preferences and Calendar, and choose your calendar's provider. Alexa can then read you its events. Amazon notes that content from a linked calendar might be available to anyone using your Alexa devices.
Siri
Siri adds reminders to the Reminders app. Apple's own examples include a reminder for tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. and one every day at 7:30 a.m., and in the Reminders app a reminder can repeat.
For birthdays, your iPhone has a simpler route that covers everyone at once: save each birthday on the contact card, turn on the Birthdays calendar, and choose one alert time for all of them. Step by step: birthday reminders on iPhone.
Google and Gemini
Gemini can add a reminder to Google Tasks. Google's example is "Remind me on [date] at [time] to [task]", and for it to work, Google Workspace has to be connected to Gemini Apps. That help page doesn't mention repeating reminders, but in the Google Tasks app you can open the task, choose Repeat, and set it to repeat every year.
For birthdays, Google Contacts and Google Calendar do more: on Android, a reminder on the contact on the day or 2, 7 or 14 days before, and in Google Calendar, a birthday you create in its app reminds you a week before and on the day. See birthday reminders on Android and in Google Calendar.
Why every birthday belongs in one list
A voice reminder is great for "call Mom tomorrow". For birthdays it has gaps:
- You set them one at a time, and only for the birthdays you remember to set.
- A spoken reminder needs you in the room. Alexa can send it to your phone too, which helps.
- It doesn't help with what to say. The reminder comes, and the message is still a blank page.
So keep every birthday in one list that repeats every year (your contacts, a calendar or a reminder service) and use the assistant for the extra nudge on the day. For the whole system, see how to never forget a birthday again.
Or get the reminder by email, with the message ready
Greetigo is one option. Save a birthday once and it repeats every year. Greetigo emails you in the morning, your time: the day before by default, or on the day, or 1, 3, 7 or 14 days before, and you can pick more than one.
Each reminder comes with a message already written: a free template with their name, or on Plus and Premium the AI-written draft you saved for that date. You review it, then send it from Greetigo or copy it into a text or a card. Nothing is sent until you click Send.
It's free for up to 10 saved dates. Greetigo doesn't connect to Alexa, Siri or Google: reminders come by email. It works in any browser, including your phone's; there's no iPhone or Android app.
