All Teachers Day Messages(49)
Happy Teachers' Day. Thank you for the patience, the second explanations and the third ones. It all added up to more than you know.
Thank you for making your classroom a place where it was safe to get things wrong. That's where I learned the most.
Happy Teachers' Day to someone who notices the quiet kids, the kids who are struggling and the ones who need a push. Thank you for seeing all of us.
Thank you for the lessons on the board and the ones that weren't: how to keep trying, how to ask for help, and how to be kind about it.
You made a hard subject feel possible. Thank you for not giving up on any of us.
Thank you for believing I could do it before I did. Happy Teachers' Day.
Thank you for everything you've done for [child] this year. They come home talking about your class, and that tells me more than any report card.
[Child] used to dread [subject]. This year they asked for more books about it. Thank you for whatever you did, because it worked.
Thank you for your patience with [child] on the hard days. We noticed, and we're grateful.
Happy Teachers' Day. Thank you for the notes home, the extra encouragement, and for knowing exactly when [child] needed it.
Thank you for making school a place [child] wants to go every morning. That's no small thing, and we know it takes work.
Thank you for the tied shoes, the dried tears and the songs [child] now sings at dinner. You've made their first year at school a happy one.
From all of us at home: thank you. [Child] is more confident than they were at the start of the year, and a lot of that is you.
Thank you for treating us like we had something worth saying. Your class was the one I looked forward to.
Thank you for preparing us for more than the exam. I'll remember how you taught us to make an argument long after I forget the dates.
Thank you for turning [subject] into something I actually looked forward to. That takes real skill.
You pushed us when we needed it and eased off when we needed that. Thank you for knowing the difference.
Thank you for the reference letter, the extra time and the honest feedback. I wouldn't be where I'm headed without them.
Thank you for office hours that turned into the most useful conversations of my degree.
Your class changed what I wanted to study. Thank you for that, Professor [name].
Thank you for the tough feedback. It made my work better, and I know it took time to give.
You treated us like colleagues, not just students, and we rose to it. Thank you, Professor.
You might not remember me, but I was in your class in [year]. I'm a [job] now, and I still use what you taught me. Thank you.
I've meant to write this for years. Your class was the first time I felt good at something. Thank you for that.
I found my old notebook from your class and it made me smile. Thank you for everything you put into those lessons.
My own kids are in school now, and I keep hoping they get a teacher like you. Thank you, years late but just as sincere.
You told me once that I could [goal]. I did. I wanted you to know, and to say thank you.
Happy Teachers' Day from a former student who still hears your voice every time I [habit you taught].
After all these years in the classroom, enjoy every slow morning. Your students carry your lessons with them. Happy retirement.
You're leaving the classroom, but your lessons aren't going anywhere. Thank you, and enjoy every day of retirement.
No more grading at the kitchen table. Thank you for all the years you did it, and enjoy the time back.
To the teacher who gave so many of us a good start: happy retirement, and thank you.
The school won't be the same without you. Thank you for everything, and I hope retirement is all you've been waiting for.
I missed Teachers' Day, but I didn't want to miss saying thank you. You've made a real difference this year.
This is a little late for Teacher Appreciation Week, but the appreciation isn't. Thank you for all you do for [child].
A belated happy Teachers' Day. I meant to write last week, and I didn't want to leave it unsaid: thank you.
The week came and went before I got this written. Thank you anyway, and for the whole year, not just one week.
It's the end of the year and I still haven't said it properly: thank you for everything you did for [child].
Thank you for pretending not to notice when I was texting under the desk. Your selective eyesight was a gift. Happy Teachers' Day.
I promise to use everything you taught me, right after I look it up again to check. Thank you for everything.
You survived another year of teaching us. That deserves a medal, a raise and, at the very least, a very large coffee.
I still have the odd nightmare about pop quizzes. I also have a good education. I think we're even. Happy Teachers' Day.
Thanks to you, I will never forget that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. Have I used it since? No. Am I grateful? Yes.
Thank you for everything. You made a difference.
The best teacher I ever had. Thank you.
Thank you for believing in me.
Happy Teachers' Day. Thank you for all you do.
Grateful for you, today and every day.
Thank you for a great year.
What to write, by who you are
The messages above are a start. What makes a note personal is one detail only you could write.
A parent, to your child's teacher
Name one thing the teacher did that your child talks about at home: a book, a project, the way they start the day. That one detail tells a teacher more than "thanks for a great year". If your child is old enough, let them add a line or a drawing.
A student
Mention a lesson, a comment on your work or a moment in class that stuck with you. Two or three sentences in your own words are better than a long quote.
A former student, years later
Say who you are and when you were in their class, then what you do now and what they had to do with it. Teachers rarely find out how things turned out, and you are the only one who can tell them.
A whole class or a group of parents
One card that everyone signs, with a short line each, says more than one long message from the organizer. Start it a week early so nobody is left out.
A teacher who is retiring or leaving
Thank them for the years, not just this one, and wish them well for what comes next.

Teacher gift ideas
A gift is optional; the note is what matters. If you want to add something, keep it small and useful. Some schools set limits on gifts, so check first.
A note that names one thing
Say what they did and what it changed. It costs nothing, and a teacher can keep it for years.
EasySupplies for the classroom
US public school teachers who bought classroom supplies with their own money spent $478 on average in 2014-15 (NCES). Ask what the class is short of, or give a gift card for a supply store.
EasyCoffee or tea
A bag of good coffee or tea and a short note. Small, useful and easy to share in the staff room.
EasyA book for the class library
Ask which books the class loves, or what the shelf is missing, and write your child's name inside the cover.
EasyA card from the whole class
One card with a line from every student, or a few photos and messages in a small book.
MediumA donation in their name
Give to the school's own fund or a classroom project they care about.
EasyMissed it?
A late thank-you is still a thank-you
If the day went by, send it anyway: the "After the day" messages above are written for that. The end of the school year is a natural second chance.
Next year, save the date in Greetigo and it emails you the day before. World Teachers' Day is October 5 every year. Teacher Appreciation Week moves each year, so save this year's date.

When is Teacher Appreciation Week 2027?
In the US, Teacher Appreciation Week 2027 runs from May 3 to May 7, 2027. National Teacher Day falls on Tuesday, May 4, 2027.
When is World Teachers' Day?
October 5, every year. UNESCO has held it since 1994. Some countries mark their own Teachers' Day on another date: September 5 in India, September 10 in China, and the last Friday of October in Australia.
What should I write in a teacher appreciation card?
One specific thing they did and what it changed, in two or three sentences. "Thank you for the extra help with fractions. Sam finally likes math" means more than a page of general thanks.
What is a good gift for a teacher?
A note that names something they did is the gift that costs nothing and lasts. If you want to add something, classroom supplies, a book for the class or a small coffee gift are useful. Some schools set limits on gifts, so check first.
I missed Teacher Appreciation Week. Is it too late?
No. A thank-you is welcome any time, and the end of the school year is a natural moment for one. Say it plainly: "This is late for Teacher Appreciation Week, but I wanted to thank you."
How can I thank a teacher who changed my life?
Write to them, even years later. Say when you were in their class, what you do now and what they had to do with it. Teachers rarely hear how things turned out for their students.
